Mahe Island
The island of Mahé is the most densely populated island among the 115 islands that form the Republic of Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. Due to the long coastline, it is not surprising that the inhabitants of Mahé rely on fishing as one of the main forms of maintenance. The local cuisine of Mahé has many influences due to its colonial past. That’s why the food in Mahé combines French and British cuisine with a good measure of seafood. The main fish caught here is tuna, which gave rise to a serious tuna and canning industry. Therefore, many of Mahé’s cuisine contains tuna as the main ingredient. In addition, the red snapper is the favorite of the crowd. This fish can be cooked in red chili curry and coconut with local spices or grilled with garlic and red paste, then wrapped in banana leaves to cook over time on charcoal burners.
