Odisha (some time ago Orissa), an eastern Indian state on the Bay of Bengal, is known for its tribal societies and its numerous old Hindu sanctuaries. The capital, Bhubaneswar, is home to many sanctuaries, quite the unpredictably cut Mukteshvara. The Lingaraj Temple complex, dating to the eleventh century, is set around hallowed Bindusagar Lake.
